This rug features magical lines on the front and back (Arabic: hamayil), which visibly form diamonds over the prayer niche. Hamayil are a type of muska and also are meant to provide protection from evil spirits. The typical Çubukli border is also a notable feature for rugs from Gördes and Avanos. The prayer niche is covered in stylized houseflies (Turkish: sinek). For this reason, this type of Gördes rug is also called a Sinekli Gördes.
